What AI Genuinely Does Well Here

• Resume parsing and matching: extracting structured data from unstructured resumes and ranking candidates against a job description — mature, reliable technology at this point.
• Sourcing at scale: searching large talent pools and surfacing likely-fit candidates faster than manual Boolean search.
• Scheduling and first-pass screening chatbots: handling repetitive coordination and basic qualifying questions.
• Drafting outreach messages: generating first-draft personalized messages at volume, for a recruiter to edit, not send unedited.

Where It's Weaker Than Marketed

• "AI interview scoring": automated assessment of video interviews for soft skills is the most legally and scientifically contested area in this category — verify validation evidence carefully, not just confidence in the demo.
• Full autonomous screening decisions: most legitimate platforms position AI as a ranking/recommendation aid, not a sole decision-maker — be wary of any that claim otherwise.

What to Ask Vendors

Ask specifically what the AI component does end-to-end, what data it was trained or validated on, and what a human still has to review before a decision is made. Vague answers to that question are the clearest red flag in this category.
