Engineering hiring has moved away from whiteboard interviews. Here's what the evidence-based alternative stack looks like.
Technical hiring for engineers has changed significantly. Whiteboard coding interviews have well-documented problems (performance anxiety bias, testing algorithms rather than real work), and the tooling has moved toward more realistic assessment formats.
For any technical assessment platform, ask specifically whether their question sets have been validated for job performance prediction, and what the adverse impact data looks like. Assessments that are predictive of performance for some demographic groups but not others create both fairness and legal risk.
