Pay equity tools check whether compensation is fair across demographic groups. Here's what the analysis actually involves and what it doesn't catch.
Pay equity analysis tools examine whether employees in similar roles are paid differently based on protected characteristics (gender, race, etc.), controlling for legitimate factors like experience, tenure, and performance. They're a compliance tool in jurisdictions with pay equity reporting requirements and a fairness tool for organizations that want to be proactive.
Controlled pay gap analysis shows whether people in the same box are paid differently. It doesn't show whether the boxes themselves reflect bias (whether women are systematically underleveled, for example). Addressing structural representation gaps requires different analysis and different interventions.
